Nav sees no sats it seems, sat antenna bad?

Hi Guys

The Nav stopped seeing any satelites, there are one or two dots on the small pictogram in the top RH corner (they randomly jump around) but it does not register any data it seems. The unit navigates fine once I tell it where it is, it turns and senses reverse, etc. But it will go in the wrong direction from the starting point compared to where I am actually am going.

Have not had time to trouble shoot and my first try will be to connect the antenna from the BMW assistance system that is connected to the BT module. (When I put my Nav in I twinned the antenna.) If that is not conclusive I will swap in the Nav from the wife's car.

QUESTION: The sat antenna I put in is the same item as the original and I bought it from the dealer. Is there any history of these units going bad so quickly? I put the system in March or April last year.....

Swapped it with the other car and unfortunately it is the unit, not the GPS antenna. Any one have a suggestion where to send for repairs? Otherwise I might just buy a replacement....

UPDATE: Did a little searching and seems to be a common problem with the GPS or the antenna connector. I know I have seen a thread iin the past where somebody fixed the connector but can seem to find it now.

I have the covers off the mk4 unit but can't get the drive out for lack of a small enough torx bit.

If anyone has some info on how to fix this I'd appreciate it.

Replace the GPS tuner module

They can be bought as a spare part, try:

Hmmmmm, I plugged it back in so can see what I am listening to and lo and behold it is back from the dead! I am stumped. Some have reported same only to have it die again later, let's see how it goes.
