disply problem
 

i lost disply on my screen after i jumed started my X5 anyone can help?
i can still use the radio and CD changer and tape but no disply.
I can see that the screen is lit but can't get any disply.

I jump started my X5 just a few days ago and my Nav screen has not been working since and in addition my CD changer has been acting crazy and will stop playing after about a 1 1/2 minutes. Were you able to get your Nav screen working again? Does anyone know how to resolve this issue?

First thing I would check are all the fuses. You will find them in the right rear compartment and in the glove box area.

switched battery and now display is gone radio cuts out
 

My battery died. I swapped it with a sear international.

But now, I have the same issue as others in the thread.

Blank Screen. Radio will play for a few minutes, then cut out. If I turn the radio back off and on again it will stay on for a few more.

Did is screw up the battery install? Is there a way to fix it?

I have not checked this out yet, I'll be doing that Monday, I had someone else tell me they had a similar problem and they had to load and install a version 25 software where the Nav CD goes and this corrected the problem. I am hoping this will work becasue it would be a simple fix. Let me know what happens.

In the right compartment theres a 30 amp green fuse, its the first fuse from the front to back on the fuse block. Thats the fuse for the entire entertainment system including nav. Check it, or pull it and wait a bit and plug it back in. I've seen this problem where the nav screen didnt come on after jump and this is what I did to get it back.

Fried on board computer? Wife pissed! husband in trouble.
 

I found a 5 amp fuse that does radio, nav on board computer. But it wasn't blown. It was fine. I pulled it out, put it back. Same thing. I get a little back light that comes through on the Nav screen, but it is blank.

I found this fuse in the glove box. The Fuses in the back didn't seem to do anything, just a single row of fuses. I pulled them out, but nothing shut off not even the radio.

My dealer said the on board computer is fried and it will cost $2200 for a new one. My wife is pissed. I changed the battery and now it will cost her $2200 to get her radio back.

If any one can help find find a way to fix this, I would be ever so grateful. Sleeping with in the dog house isn't much fun these days.

I am going through the same issue right now after a jump start. I called BMW North America and explained the problem. I believe it is a software issue, and it has to be a design flaw becuase changing a battery or getting a jump start are all normal actions in the course of owning a car. Here is the number for BMW North America, 800-831-1117. I would call them up and explain the problem. They told me it was a software issue and new software had to be uploaded to correct the problem. There is no way you should have to pay $2200 to have this fixed. I am bringing my car in on Monday to address this issue so I'll keep you posted on what happens.
