Struck CD Disk inside MKIII drive
Roy and ccfj1,
Thanks for your tips to unlock that black clip. I am finally able to do it right to unlock it. I will see if I can unload my struck CD disk inside the MKIII drive next. Maildrop |
The disk is not hard to get out the manual way if all else fails. It has been described here and on bimmerboard nav forum several times. Do a search. Let us know if you still can't find the instructions. Remember to only use a mode2 form1 disk for upgrades. Any Ver.22 and higher. You can buy a Ver. 32 at the dealer for less than $10. Try getbmwparts.com. Crashed MKIIIs that have to be reflashed need to be sent to VDO-Siemens in Germany or to the guy in Australia (Autotronic LCFS).

CD/Disk struck in MKIII
I finally pulled the struck CD out by opening the MKIII unit. However the unit's power never came back. I searched an answer from the forum. I guessed my MKIII unit was long gone earlier because the "power" indicator from the front panel was never showing "orange" color light again as soon as the disk struck inside. On the other hand, "Eject" light would still come on once in a while. That meant it still has power. I just do not get it.
How can an update disk will fry a fancy/expensive Navigation unit so easily? I am a highly skilled IT pro. I just can not imagine BMW will use such a lousy NAV unit for their pricy car. No way for me to buy another MK3 or MK4 unit. It is so fragile. :-( |
