Checking my understanding of Mk III Nav

Hi all, new to this forum, lots of great information here, very cool

I have a 2001 M5 with the wide screed display. In set up the software version states SW 3/1-30 which I think my be the latest update for the MK III

More research, above Wrong below correct?

Found a chart here, I guess that I am wrong SW 3/1-30 in the Mark III is V17, as I under stand the chart the v31-mode2-form1 download that I have would be 3/1-63? is this correct?? Confused here. I do have this download and key disk made and could do the upgrade as needed.

This version does not have split screen, is the split screen worth tracking down the version and installing it?

What does the split screen do for me?

I live in Idaho, and drive all over the west, where would I beg borrow or steal  a copy of the newest release.

Thanks for your time, it is appreciated.

anyone want to wade in here?

Yes, you are correct. The last upgrade for Mk3 is 3/1-63 so if you have the v31 mode2-form1 burned in slow speed and the key CD, you should be good to go. The update process if very simple:
1. Put the key into postion1
2. Eject Map CD and put in the software CD
3. Follow instructions on the screen

After you installed the update you should get the split screen option under Settings.

Thank you

I used Imgburn to make the cds as posted, however, the lowest speed that the software used was 16 even though I selected a speed of 1 as indicated in other posts. The software stated the slowest was 16x.

Two questiosn, if the copy is not great can I hurt the system by trying this cd?

second, is there a way to force a speed on 1x?

Thanks

yes, there is a big chance that the update will not install properly so I wouldn't try it.

I am not aware of a way to force a lower speed because the lowest speed with which you can burn CDs depends on your CD drive. I had the same issue when I was burning my CD. None of my laptops would burn it with lower than 10x so I had to dig up my old desktop computer from storage where I had the CD drive that could burn with 4x speed.

so I understand that I could hurt the system instead of having a refused upload if the disk is not 100%.

Hmm pain, I Is there even a disk burner out there that will copy at 1 or 2X? Everything computer is to go faster not slower.

Anyone have an idea how to get around this?

Thanks

The OS update disc is only around $10 at the dealer. If you can't find the part number (it should be in this forum in a number of posts), post a reply and I'll look it up for you.

Really, all this work for just 10 bucks, yes I would go and get one for sure.

Thanks, I will take a look and see if I can find the part number.

Cool
