take control via RGsB
 

Im wanting to input my own RGsB signal, which Im ok doing - thinking ahead im wondering how I stop the boardmonitor thinking its still talking to the nav drive - ie i want to still be able to use the rotary knobs to control my pc program and not to still send them to the nav drive...

The way I would be doing it would mean all im doing is stopping the nav drive signal getting to the screen, so if i still used the knob things would still be doing all sorts of things in the background.....

do I either disconnect the ibus from the nav drive
or is there some mode i can put the board monitor into
or does using the reverse camera enable pin stop the interaction with the nav drive?

any thoughts?

You could pretend to be the TV tuner. That will give you another menu option labeled "Television" (though you could change the text by making a modified software update disc), and most of the buttons will be ignored by the stuff in the car, since it expects the TV tuner to handle them. You can't re-map the Menu button, but you do get the 1-6 presets, the encoder knob, up/down, and so forth.

I thought about that with either the DSP option or televison, but I was assuming that the nav drive still produced the menus for it - reason for thinking this is im told that if you disconnect the nav drive then the tv menu defaults to an older style, ie the tv module is now doing the menus itself in the absence of the more updated interface on the nav unit.

do you know the ibus commands for the tv module responses?

I'm trying to understand what makes the 'Television' appear in the menu. What is it about the TV module that makes it appear - resistive load?
Anyone know?

the tv module disconnects the nav video signal from getting to the screen when it receives the ibus message to turn on, and replaces it with its own rgsb feed

Like most other related modules, there is a poll/response message that goes over the iBus a couple of times at poweron.

If VID responds to the poll its menu option appears.

brilliant so if I emulate a VID response - say inject the message on the iBus then the Menu will appear?
And it has to be at start up?

Yep, there are a few polls that go out looking for who's there waiting on the bus.

It gives up after a while, maybe 10 secs something like that.

You may not even need to wait for a poll, just send out the "VID ->GLO/LOC/GT ready after reset" message.

Doesn't have to be at startup.

Just like the DSP, when the module says "hello" the option appears in the menu
