MkIII upgrade to MKIV Dvd Nav

Hi

I have an 02 X5 4.6 with a MKIII (CD) nav system. A friend had a MK IV DVd drive that he pulled out of his 5 series. It had 2009 stamped on it and i checked the model number and it says the unit was used in e53 X5's. It was pretty much plug and play to hook it up. When i turned on the Car the screen would not come up. I took the disc out of my old unit and put it in but nothing. When i hook my old drive up all works perfect. So i tried hooking the new mk4 unit up and still nothing on the screen. Radio everything works perfect but the screen flickers and then goes out. The led indicator on the dvd drive also does not turn on. But it takes the disk. The drive was taken out of working vehicle. Do i need to reprogram the drive to work in my X5?
Any other ideas would be great.

Thanks

The MKIV only was produced for the X5 through the 2006 model year. If it has 2009 stamped on it as a date then it's unlikely that it is a compatible unit.

Post a pic of the unit and provide the part number.

I checked the part number on realOEM.com. It shows compatibility with the x5. Here is the number. 65909176686. Thanks

That does show as a MKIV. Note, however, that the software on that unit could be configured for a different type of display output (mono versus color). You may want to try to recode it with the navcoder application (will require a hardware interface module to do this) for your vehicle specs.

Hi thanks for the info. im not familiar with that application. How does it work? Do i need to hook the drive to the computer or the computer to the car with the drive in it?

Thanks

See http://www.xoutpost.com/electronics/...er-2009-a.html and it can be downloaded at NavCoder Website

if the cable you have will allow your PC to communicate with the ibus then I don't see why it wouldn't work. Give it a try and find out.
