Just to confirm if this will work on my navi

Hi Navi gurus. I have a 2006 4.8is with nav and dsp if that is relevant. I would like to update my map version. Can someone confirm that this will work.

Based on the reading here, I am pretty sure I have an mk4 navi.
Thanks in advance.

if you have an original DVD based nav in your E53, it is MK4. the item is a copied set, that is supposed to work - check the original ShopBMWUSA.com: BMW Navigation System Map Updates

Wow price diff is huge.

So if it's a copy, does it still work just as well as the original DVD?

Also if it's a copy, how hard would it be to burn one with speed traps and speed cameras? I don't get where to start even. I read it here and people do it, but where do you start? Like where do you download the maps and then tweak them? It's like all the download links are dead anyway these days.

It seems that it will work. I suspect that the seller will not be on ebay much longer as the BMW will crack down on the sales of their copyrighted material.
I have not tweaked the DVD files, as I had the original ones, albeit used ones that i got off the ebay - and I could not tweak the originals.

On the other hand, I wish I could use "aftermarket" maps in the BMW DVD nav, as when I was in Latin America, my nav was useless without the maps, just the sat coordinates, which did not mean much to me - after all, I am not in the open sea... lol... From the pictures of your seller, it looks like the BMW is using TOMTOM maps... which gives me hope that not all lost - my euro maps are dated 2003 and the US maps dated 2009...

I doubt BMW will crack down on anything. There are like a million of these guys out there. Funny as hell. Plus I personally found like 10 torrent sites that say you can download all this too. I am not even surprised.

I am just completely brain fried after reading most of this forum. I finally downloaded all the Poison, navtweak, navspeak software, v32 OS, and going to try messing with it. I figure I need to try this, because just reading it, is not getting me anywhere. The guys on here have made some amazing stuff. Like Camera and speed trap locations.

I just need someone to hold my hand a little so that I don't mess something up hard core.

I would like to hear about your progress - the only thing i ever did to nav, was upgrading the OS when i had MK3. in moscow i got an MK4 with cyrillic support and the guys there did all the tweaking. I did not need camera locations or GAI post locations, as I carried a dip card and was immune to their crap, even the field sobriety tests... lol...

now I have MK4 in the 4.8iS, with 4-1/60, that I will need to upgrade, and then downgrade to get rid of the "accept" screen... also, my "russian" unit was able to get scale down to 125 ft, and the system in the new ride only takes me down to 400 ft... not that it matters, but it is cool to have the option... also, it seems that the new OS will update the BT voice files for nav control - i had that in the old ride, and short of swapping the BT modules, i want it again in the new ride...

Are you going to get those DVDs from the NJ girl?

SlickGT1 07-09-2012 11:33 AM

Outside Moscow, a US $20 bill, without even talking will get the foockin gaishnik to turn around without a word. In Moscow, he might rob you, arrest you, and kick your ass. There is an old joke.

A cop goes to the captain, tells him I need to make some overtime. My daughter is getting married, and I need extra money. The captain tells him that he will give him a stop sign on some street for a month. That should cover all of his expenses.

Yea I bought the DVDs. I don't know what else to do really. I don't want to pull the ones out of my car to mess with, as they are 2007 release. So no point in messing with those. These should be good.

All I need to figure out now, is how to update the OS to v32 poison that I downloaded with the camera and cop stuff. I'll keep it updated, and hopefully help others who are as lost as I am.

Slick, у меня к тебе вопрос про диски, но не хотелось бы по интернету задавать. созвонимся?

SlickGT1 07-09-2012 01:27 PM

Davai, PM.

TerminatorX5 07-13-2012 10:45 PM

Slick, I downloaded free trial version of NavCoder, and that thing was able to remove the ACCEPT screen by changing from US to ECE in Nav module which resulted in removal of EMERGENCY entry in the screen and conversion of all FOOT to YARDS... nothing else was changed... Did not require any programming and hardware splicing - i used the OBD II to USB cable that I got earlier for the NCS programming...

Just FYI...
