Navigation - please wait message

Hi

My battery went dead and since then the navigation either displays 'please wait' or please insert CD/DVD.

I have read I may need to re install or update the firmware but cannot find exactly how to do it.

Also do I have to re install the same version firmware or update to a newer version?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The car is an E46 M3 2003 facelift.

I look forward to some advice.

Many thanks.

Try pulling all the fuses for the nav. Not sure if you would have one or more. Wait a while and put them back in, then start the car.

OK many thanks. I will attempt that first. I have tried disconnecting the battery for an hour but that didnt do anything. I will try the fuse thing next.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

You can also upgrade to new firmware. Current firmware might work. You need to unlock car, take out your key, and wait for the lights on the nav DVD player to stop blinking. Once it's off, you pull out cd/DVD, put in new one, put in key, and switch ignition to pos2. Then wait for update to finish on screen. Do not do anything while it's updating, as in no power interruption.

Make sure your battery is charged up.

Thanks again. I tried the fuse pulling and I am still getting the same error message.

When you say pull out the CD/DVD and put in a new one, do you mean a new firmware CD?
Where do I get one of those from?
By the way, I dont know if its any help but my software version is 4 - 1/12 whatever that means.

MKIV nav I am assuming. You can buy newest software from dealer. Or you can download from here somewhere. Its in the sticky in the nav forum. Do you have any firmware CDs? Look here you can DL it, burn it, and use that.

It happen to me sometime ago. It turned out to be laser unit was gone.

Mine was MK1V. Changed laser unit and it worked. There is a sticky on this forum explaining very nicely how to change the laser unit. It was very useful and explained very well with pictures. It was by "Didi" I believe.
