I should quit while I'm ahead

My wife has had a tough week. Our 11 month old daughter has a nasty cold and is cranky as all hell. Between fighting with kidzilla at meal time and waking up every 2 hours at night because kidzilla is not sleeping well my wife's stress level is at 11.

I try to help out as much as I can but between looking after our other daughter and work there's only so much I can do. Plus, as with most kids when they're sick she wants mama not me.

On top of all that my wife has somehow managed to get an infection in her toe so she's been hobbling around for the last 3 days.

Tonight after the usual circus of routine activities and putting the kids to bed I see that my wife is in dire need of some hug therapy. As I'm hugging her and stroking her hair she breaks into a sob and her arms are flailing about.

I say "I know you've had a tough week but it'll be ok, you're doing the best you can". She screams "You're standing on my toe!"

Nothing like trying to help out and inadvertantly making things worse! Why don't you get her some of her favorite flowers and maybe a nice little gift?

Buy her a spa gift certificate, and wear soft-soled shoes for the time being.

True story?

Hope your kid gets well soon, and watch where you step.

I hate to admit it but yes it's a true story. I'm such a dope some times.

Thanks for the suggestions for "suck-up" points. I took the day off from work today to give my wife a break. She's currently hobbling around an art gallery somewhere. Acacia (a.k.a kidzilla) and I are having a blast. She's already emptied out half the drawers in the kitchen.

It's all good though. I wouldn't trade it for anything.
