XM portable

My father has XM built into the radio in his Yukon and he really likes it. So i'm going to get him a unit he can use in the house. Do any of you have an indoor unit? the RoadyXT was recommended, but i htought i'ld ask around before picking it up.

I had the first generation boom box, where you could take the unit from your car to the radio. It was pretty cool in that I could use it in my office, the garage, at picnics and up at the cabin.

Now that XM broadcast over the net (http://xmro.xmradio.com/xstream/index.jsp) I use my computer in the office. Outside the house I use my ipod and a set of portable speakers(http://playlistmag.com/news/2005/06/02/im7/index.php). In the house my preference is the Polk rack unit (http://www.xmradio.com/polk/index.jsp)... it allows me to listen and record programs to CD or MiniDisc.

how's the reception on the polk unit? did you have to run an antenna?

You definitely have to run an antenna or tap an existing on (I tapped my HD antenna)... once done it's flawless.

PS... what's the weather situation. Back when I lived in Ft. Lee and Budd Lake they would always predict the big one, but it only came true that year Whitman had to close the Turnpike and called a state of emergency.

I was looking at that too, I have to go to a store and look at them, I was thinking that all of the buttons and the small size might be a problem for a 72 year old ... i'll have to have him check them out i guess.

Well, we got creamed and it's still coming down... at least a foot on the ground now. They just shut down the NJTransit bus system. Tomorrow is going to be a fun commute.
