Help! 'Puter Prob!...

Leaned on the shift key too long this am, while doing an email: the "filter key" box popped up with a fookin pile of options. I obviously hit the wrong options crap. Now, I can't compose new mail, the cap locks thing is backward, when I am on X5World site, every thing I click on, gets in line and is then diminished on the bottom of screen..WTF?!

I love these things: one wrong freaking move with a finger and the whole damn thing "changes"...

I just want my email and browser and sites back to fookin normal.

NE Easy steps or ideas?
BR,md

have you tried holding down the shift key again for 8 seconds, bringing back that screen, and un-clicking everything that's checked?

J: yes, but the options, menus and layers of bs are driving me crazy. I don't recall what I clicked the first time to try and get that little window to go "away", eg cancel, etc. This stuff drives me nuts: a slip of the finger produces havoc and chaos.

I have the little "accessability logo" now on my taskbar thing at bottom right and when I click on it, it gives me the same litany of options, none of which are making sense.

Very confusing and frustrating...

it's called sticky keys.

To change StickyKeys options
StickyKeys is designed for people who have difficulty holding down two or more keys simultaneously. When a shortcut requires a key combination, such as CTRL+P, StickyKeys will enable you to press a modifier key (CTRL, ALT, or SHIFT), or the Windows logo key (), and have it remain active until another key is pressed.

Open Accessibility Options.
On the Keyboard tab, under StickyKeys, click Settings. Do one of the following:
To use the shortcut that allows you to turn StickyKeys on or off by by pressing the SHIFT key five times, select the Use shortcut check box.
To specify that when a modifier key (CTRL, ALT, or SHIFT), or the Windows logo key () is pressed twice in succession, the key will remain active until the key is pressed again, under Options, select the Press modifier key twice to lock check box.
To turn off StickyKeys when a modifier key (CTRL, ALT, or SHIFT), or the Windows logo key () and another key are pressed simultaneously, under Options, select the Turn StickyKeys off if two keys are pressed at once check box.
To play a tone to indicate when a modifier key (CTRL, ALT, or SHIFT), or the Windows logo key () is pressed, locked, or released, under Notification, select the Make sounds when modifier key is pressed check box.
To display an icon for StickyKeys on the taskbar when StickyKeys is turned on, under Notification, select the Show StickyKeys status on screen check box.

Broknlgs:
Thanks! Back to near normal, I think...I had to print out your directions, so I could read them while I was screwing around with that sticky key box, as the box covered your post, lol!

I still have a "diff looking" Outlook Express top bar thing, as stuff has seemed to slide to the right, but email and email composition is working.

This kind of inadvertent finger poke has caused calamity before; I wish for a "keyboard" that has only the alphabet, punctuation, numbers, a cap key and shift key; all the rest of these friggin buttons are unused by me and simply get me in trouble if I inadvertently rest my finger tips.

NEway, rant over, but thank you very much for the instructions to navigate the sticky key thing....

I thought "sticky keys" were a result of FF babe viewing, Lol!
Thanks, B and BR, md

WOW. How cool to get that kind of help. A person could have been on the phone in India for an hour and perhaps would not have gotten half the help. I diden't have the problem but I still want to say thanks.

Here's another Glitch for the 'Puter Mavens:

This recent glitch is driving me crazy:
Windows media player won't work, eg I wanna see a vid off the net or some link, and the Blue Windows Player fires up and then it does nothing...
I get a window that says, "no connection or cannot connect to server...", etc.

I can sometimes make a vid play via QuickTime, but no work with Windows Media or RealPlayer.

I then dig around a little, (dangerous I know), and keep getting/finding the following:

C00D1198: Cannot connect to the server

Windows Media Player cannot connect to the server hosting the content that you want to play. You might encounter this error message for one of the following reasons:
  • The name of the server hosting the content is not valid. If you typed a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) address in the Open URL dialog box, verify that the file name is spelled correctly and that the path to the file is correct, and then try again. If you clicked a link on a Web page, the link might not be valid.
  • The server is not available (for example, the server is busy or not online). Try again later.
  • The proxy server settings for Windows Media Player are not configured properly. Verify that your proxy server settings are correct.
To verify your proxy server settings
  • On the Tools menu, click Options, click the Network tab, and then verify your settings in the Streaming proxy settings area.
Note
  • If you do not know what your proxy server settings should be, on the Network tab, select a protocol, click Configure, and then select Autodetect proxy settings or Use proxy settings of the Web browser (available for HTTP protocol only).
Error ID = 0xC00D1198, Condition ID = 0x00000000

Now, I can read pretty well, but these 'puter instructions are mind numbing to me; for exp., I open the Tools, then Options, but damned if I can find/see/pick out the Network tab or find the fookin Streaming Proxy Settings?!

Any ideas or 5 easy lessons?

By the Bye, I changed nothing that I know of, to make or cause Windows Player to stop working. And, when I find it in my list of Programs, I can find no tab or option to make it "work".

I either need an IQ injection or an IQ deduction...not sure which.

Any comments/help is welcome.
BR,md
