Why is curling an Olympic sport?

I'm sorry I'm having trouble understanding why curling is considered a sport. Seriously it should be called a leisure activity, shouldn't it? May be it's just me.

If curling is a Winter Olympic sport then bowling should be added to the Summer games. Ok Fiona will give me hell for this since she loves curling. And all you curling fans, common give it to me....my flame suit is on.

Probably because there aren't enough winter sports to fill the Olympics. I wonder why ice dancing is a sport when ballroom dancing is just as strenuous and is not an Olympic sport. I have even argued with the wife, who used to figure skate, why even figure skating is a sport. To me, anything that requires elaborate sequined costumes (see below) is not so much sport as it is entertainment.

It is a strange sport. Reminds me of a cross between shuffle board and bocchi.

Dang Kevin, that costume scares me. Is he supposed to be a swan or something?

H'mm I don't know really but it's been a winter olympic sport since 1924.

Curling originates from the 16th century (i think) it was played on winter frozen ponds, lochs and marshes. So I guess that's where the winter bit comes in.

but what makes it a sport I dunno.

I guess you could say it's like chess on ice. It one of those games you think looks easy until you try it's not that easy first time I tried I was on my @rse 90% of the time.

Fiona try wearing ice skates next time.

Question for you: why did Britain do so poorly at Turin? They have like one medal or something like that?

I dunno we always do. Something to do with our population and funding and the usual stuff I guess.
