So when you strike a police officer for stopping you from entering the Capitol, it's about racism? Give me a break!

One should be careful when talking about how things affect a person. You can't talk about the incident unless you were there and truly witnessed the event in question- always be careful about racism- it affects everyone differently- plus we already know how the press can have a skewed look on certain issues. Striking an officer is one thing- being struck by an officer unjustly as an african american knowing you have no recourse is another. We only have to look back at the Rodney King incident and countless others that haven't even been mainstreamed by the press.

In deference to the police, as stated in the story, the accuser was supposed to wear an identification pin, and she didn't have that on- ""It is the job of the Capitol Police to protect members of Congress. As a part of that job, they are to know who those members are," he said. "Whenever you put a police officer out on the street, he is supposed to know his job."

Members of Congress are allowed to bypass the metal detectors and security checkpoint. They are supposed to wear a lapel pin that identifies them as lawmakers. McKinney acknowledges she wasn't wearing one when she was stopped, but concurred with Myart that police should know who she is.

"The pin is not the issue," the six-time congresswoman said. "The issue is face recognition."

That would be her faux pas.

She is just mad that some lowly cop didn't recognize her or her ego. "Face recognition"? It's more like "you don't know who I am???". Unfortunately some opportunistic people will take an incident like this and blow it totally out of proportion to further their own ends.

Even more unfortunately, much of society has been conditioned to react this way. For example, I was involved in talking to a young Hispanic girl who is involved in gang activity. Never once was race, ethnic origin, nationality or anything remotely close mentioned. When she was told that gang activity wasn't going to be tolerated she screamed "you're all being racist".

Not trying to put blame on/wash blame off anyone here, but Tom Joyner was just saying Thursday morning on the radio that compared to her "Class Picture" from the Congressional Directory, she was unrecognizeable. He and the co-hosts of his show mentioned a new hairdo and possibly some makeup/plastic surgery. I also don't know who touched/hit who first, but I pretty much know from experience that you don't hit a member of law enforcement in this type of situation.

If you're equipped between the ears with the kind of data banks that can memorize and categorize every face of every Representative in the House, yo ass needs to be curing HIV or cancer, not being a Capitol Policeman. It's kinda ridiculous that they'd expect their officers to do that.

I agree w/ Kevin. Ego is a root cause here, not racism. I've seen ego get in the way of things professionally, politically and socially just as much as money or power would.
