glad to hear that you took the high road. There are a bunch of aholes cops out there with nothing else better to do after they run out of donuts on their beat (kidding!!).

I've been fortunate here since I met all the local CHP officers from our local golf tourney's and also since a neighbor is a local sheriff, I got that covered too. Good to build that relationship so even if I'm going 2x the speed limit on the crotchrocket which never happens.... well u get the rest..

Hey Alpine,
What a waste of time, energy, & tax-dollars. I've had my share of DWB pull-overs, since I was 15 1/2 with a learner's permit! Funny that it never happens when I'm suited up for work, but if I'm in sweats & a baseball cap on the way to the gym.... that's a formula for disaster. Not sure if it's the same in NYC, but here it's about more than race- it's a gut feeling some cops rely on- "That person doesn't fit that car" which is really not their judgment to make IMO.

For the past several years, I've always had on me:
-24/7 cell access to friends who are PD Officers in the area.
-Lawyers cell phone for unwarranted searches, etc.
-Name & office # of local police chiefs.
-Digital Camera that records video if needed.

Mentioning these resources has put a total end to any attempted searches or false tickets. The last incident was a cop pulling me over for driving 55 mph in the far-right- "You were driving too slowly for the flow of traffic" He says. "Funny- my good friend ---- on ----PD never mentioned that law. I'll give him a call back & ask him about this since we just got off the phone.... BTW, what's your badge number, sir?" He was back in his car within 2 minutes, without even a warning.

I know officers have a lot to handle, and can easily err on the cautious side, but there are a lot better uses of time & taxes. The vast majority of officers do better, but the exceptions are a real PIA.

I did see that movie. And what's interesting is, I had a discussion about it (the movie) with a colleague of mine (who's Caucasian), and he adamantly refused to believe that these things actually do happen. Even this morning while I related my tale, he kept insinuating that I must have been speeding. What the......?!! This whole thing put a major damper on my entire day, and I'm so drained.
Anyway, life goes on, right?
Happy Easter, guys (and gals)! And thanks, as always, for listening.

How easy would it be to install a small, unobtrusive video camera in my (or anyone else's) car? Hmmmmmmm......Maybe I should start a new thread!

you CAN get a ticket for going to slow and Kevin can probably confirm this also. They can cite you for obstruction of traffic if I remember correctly. Nevertheless, if it's not for safety reason's like you backing up the entire 2 lane freeway like I-5, it shouldn't happen but they can.

Sorry to hear that... sad to hear that crap like that still happens. Glad to hear he "let you go with just a warning," though. Keep your head up.

alpine rasta, I second the motion! That's really sad... and from a police officer no less. Someone you'd think should be setting an example.

EDIT: GEEZ! There were like 5 posts when I went to reply! Now I'm on page 3! Talk about RESPONSE!

I feel your pain...

Few weeks ago during an early morning pickup basketball game at my local gym, one black guy and one white guy got tangled up on the ground all of sudden. White guy locked the other guys head (Greco roman style) trying not to get punched. I and one other player broke them up. They didn't swing at each other but still exchanging insults and accusing each other initiating inappropriate contacts. (Later I found out that the white guy was a cop.) During the name calling, the black guy started accusing the white guy for being a racist. From what we saw race was nothing to do with the fight. It was just two hot headed guy ran into each other during the ball game. It was clearly wrong to use a Race Card... All of us agreed.
Fortunately, two guys kissed and made up few days later. I am living in suburbia where nothing really bad happens. I (sort of) understand where he comes from.
(Racial) profiling could be statistically effective tactic under circumstances. I.e. My Middle Eastern friend goes through hell every time he flies even with his 80 year old grandma. This is a viscous cycle someone had to stop but it doesn’t look like it will stop anytime soon. I also saw the movie Crash few times. (FYI I am an Asian.) In the movie why the hell a Korean man will traffic South Eastern Asian Slaves? They usually smuggle same kind... It is hard to smuggle if they cannot communicate. Sorry no personal experience.
