Sorry, I know I am babbling... But, you did ask what my favorite driving experience is!

Sums up my feelings about the X very nicely. Mind if I quote you on that?

It has to be driving wide open throttle in the autobahn....130+ an hour nothing can beat that rush.

I am sooooooo in agreement! The X5 felt more solid at those speeds than even the 330.

We used to joke that if a car went off into the creek there that we would claim salvage rights. Fond memories...

By the way, I rather enjoy pulling a buck fifty in my P-Car on a certain straight stretch of I-90 (only when there are no other cars around so it would only be me dying if I crashed).

Hey Labatt,

I had my first high performance driving experience at Limerock so it will always have a place in my heart.
The diving turn you mentioned, have to admit, I've lost it there !
Once did a 360 into the grass driving an audi s4 in the rain (I shouldn't have lifted) hehe...

Haven't been back in a long while but that is a fun track.

Dumb question, but humor me:

How do you GET to drive on a track? Do they just have open track days or do you need to belong to a club? I've got the Loudon nascar track right up the road (don't know how exciting that would be)... I'd love to drive on a track and really learn how to handle a car, the only thing I've done like that is the two day teen school at the BMW Performance Center.

joining a local club that has instruction on track is what you are looking for. PCA, POC, BMWCCA, NASA, and even some SCCA will have events for you to attend with instructors.

what you can do is call that track and ask them for the contact information of the clubs that do rent out their track.

have fun! but be warned... once you try driving on the track, its extremely addictive. next thing you know you drop all that bling and start building a race car

Track driving is definitley one of the best experiences. Willowsprings is a great course!!! But just to test out the speed of a car, the 15 north from LA to Las Vegas is really nice at night when there is no one out there. I've hit 175 in my M3 and it was amazing that the car was still so stable.
