Poll: Favorite driving experiences

It's kind of a bad title, but what's your favorite driving... situation, I guess?

My favorite is either a wide-open highway (with no cops :p ) or deserted country roads in the woods... I love back roads, especially at night for some reason.

Good one, CJ!

Route 195 between Ft. Hood and Austin TX. Mostly quiet, except for a few armadillos and F-150's, nice surface, flat in some places, hilly and curvy in others. Great scenery and you can't beat those Texas roadhouses. IF I had only had an X5 back in those days!

Close 2nd. would be the GW parkway between Mt. Vernon and Old Town in Alexandria, VA. Runs parallel to the Potomac River, great views of the water, very little pedestrian or bicycle traffic and some nice long curves.

Well if you're going to get all SPECIFIC and everything... :p
I like Bear Hill Road in Chichester, NH, and the area around Swamp Road in Epsom...
For interstates I like the stretch of I-93 between Concord and Manchester (3-4 lanes in each direction), and I-89 which is practically deserted and just runs through some beautiful scenery in NH and Vermont... I might have hit the speed governor, I might not have...
I like I-91 which goes down the side of Vermont and into Connecticut.

Wide open highway... on the left lane. Matter of fact, I hit 123 MPH on I-77 yesterday... at lunch!

My favorite driving situation...

Late Sunday afternoon / early evening, fast two lane road.

Everyone is already home, the roads are pretty desolate, and the sun is putting a nice glow on everything. Everything seems to have slowed down in the world, and the contrast with that and a great car (loud and great handling is a plus ) is a wonderful visceral experience. Radio optional.

you guys should really try driving on a race track...

my favorite experience: craig stanton driving ketchep at WSIR on the worst possible street tires and passing everything on the track. all the while not being serious at all. he was helping me shake down my suspension settings so we drifting from T3 through T5 and passed a car while sideways drifting. tires screaming... most inspiring is when he hit 165 at the end of the back straight when full prepped race cars on rcomp slicks were only hitting 150ish (yes we passed them while craig was laughing and they were dead serious).

my other favorite situation would be on track again when i finally reel in someone that is extremely consistent and fast and i finally get the point by from them. challenging driver making me work hard, but very rewarding.

you guys with stories of being happy at 130ish going straight... try an hpde or autox and finally live at the edge won't cha?

I CANNOT tell you the grin that it brings to my face. Every time I do it (and yes, I do it often), I can't help but think that there can't possibly be many (if any at all) vehicles that offer this combination of performance, luxury, safety, AND utility... I just never feel like the car is struggling, straining, or maxxing out -- even when I'm doing three-digit speeds! The car feels as comfortable at 115 MPH as it does at 35 MPH, and THAT is one quality you don't find in many cars.

Sorry, I know I am babbling... But, you did ask what my favorite driving experience is!

Juan
