GT500's going for $20k markup

I thought that C6Z06's going for a $15k premium was nuts, this is ridiculous...

http://www.cnn.com/2006/AUTOS/05/17/...ker/index.html

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) - Ford hasn't yet announced the price of the 2007 Shelby Cobra GT500. But, whatever it is, buyers have already indicated a willingness to pay at least $20,000 more.

The Shelby Cobra GT500 is a version of the popular Ford Mustang equipped with a 500-horsepower supercharged V-8 engine. The original Shelby GT500s, made in the late 1960s by race driver turned sports car maker Carroll Shelby, are now highly coveted collectibles that can sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars. (Far fewer of those cars were built than the approximately 8,000 per year a Ford spokesman says will be made of the new version.)

The owner of a local dealership got two in. One's his and he is selling the other one for a pretty high markup I didn't even care to look at the price. I'm sure the owner will get his for a good price though.

You're confusing the Shelby GT500 in the article, with a Ford GT. The GT500 isn't available until 2007, so he couldn't have gotten any yet.

So @ $20k over sticker you consider the buyers to be certifiable?

They're making 9000 GT500's, I don't see them being too rare. There were only 2000 Le Mans Corvette Z06's made and I got mine for $10k UNDER sticker... I think these early buyers are making a very stupid move. (look up the '91 ZR1 fiasco, they were going for $100,000!!!!)

Some nameless bidder purchased rights to #1 off the assembly line for $648K at the Barrett-Jacksion. $648,000 + $51,840 (8% B-J fee) + $45,000 (est MSRP) = $744,840.

http://www.barrett-jackson.com/aucti...nid=53&page=22

How does collector car market economics dictate that an '07 Shelby Mustang GT500 sell 16 times estimated MSRP or for double the auction price of an '05 GT40?

This is probably the last Shelby model line that will be produced. Carol Shelby is what? 80ish? I can't see him being involved in another production run... the pricing is still ridiculous, but "the last Shelby cars" might be the reason why buyers are going apeshit....
