License plate covers... deter radar/cameras

Yup. Got a ticket. Ran a red, and camera caught me. I'll post the photos later.... pretty funny. But yo, there were eight photos! I only saw two flashes. But it's clear, color, and damning!

I even had a front plate missing, too. Thought I got away. Week later, I get a letter in the mail with my photo. Talk about cruel! It was a Friday!

$350, $40 court appeal for defensive driving, then another $40 or so for the actual class.

Seeing yourself in true shock? Priceless.

Wondering if those license plate covers really work. If they do, which one to buy?

I picked up the spray stuff a year ago on eBay for about $15 and no tickets yet. I often go by DC radar traps and so far it seems to have worked.

what's the correllation between spraying junk on your license plate and avoiding getting caught in a radar trap? I thought that the spray was supposed to distort your plate if you run a red light at an intersection where there's an enforcement camera.

the spray also distorts your plates when passing photo radar. there are plenty in DC and they make it very easy to know that radar is ahead (warning signs, abandoned police car, slow traffic, posted listings of traps, etc). It is pretty hard to know if the spray really works or not, b/c I could just be very lucky. Personally running red lights ain't my thing, so its really just about the radar traps.

Side note: why would you run a red light??????? God forbid a lady and her three kids happen to cross the intersection with their green light while someone illegally runs a red and kills them.

I've heard spraying the plate is good to avoid laser since police often aim for the most reflective surface of a vehicle, the license plate followed by the windsheild and headlights.
