Recently bought a Sony DSCW100 which is great: no shutter lag, long battery life, and small enough to carry in jeans pocket
 You can get a W70, which has slightly lower resolution, but has more optional accessories like docking station and extra tele and macro lenses. And it's cheaper than a Canon (in my neck of the woods anyways...)
