Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano pedal layout

I was rifling through the new issue of R/T this morning before heading to the office. There's a couple of good articles including a write up of the new Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano which is simply an absolutely aesthetically gorgeous vehicle.

But in one of the interior photos, the 599 GTB is equipped with a dead pedal to the right of the gas pedal on a LHD car - so from left to right, it's brake, throttle, dead pedal. I'm assuming its the dead pedal. I just looked on the Ferrari website - the 599 GTB in their photo gallery has no right foot dead pedal, but it is present in the R/T review car.

Why a dead pedal (if that's what it is) for the throttle foot? Is it a resting place when cruise control is enabled?

An additional question - the R/T reviewed 599 GTB also has a large aluminum plate installed in the passenger side footwell. I've seen plenty of passenger footwell plates on eBay - some actually look quite nicely made. Anybody ever install one of these? Obviously they have no real purpose in a passenger vehicle, but they are an eye-catcher.

It seems to me it would be best installed by removing the carpet, installling the plate, then reinstalling the carpet trimmed to fit around the plate.

Duh - it's not a footrest, it's a friggin' reflection of the throttle pedal captured in the photo. The transmission tunnel is plated, probably with polished aluminum.
