I just spoke to a friend of mine who works locally at Grumman in the laser targeting division...it's their department that tests and calibrates the lasers that "paint" the targets for precision munitions....the mood at Grumman is fairly upbeat today.

While this makes excellent PR, nothing at all will change. In another month they will have a new "most wanted" guy in Iraq. They need a face to blame for the insurgency instead of just admitting the reality which is that the insurgency is made up mostly of just common Iraqi citizens who want revenge against the US for the killing of family members, friends, etc. Most of the 100k+ civilians killed in the last 3 years do have families, and you can bet most of them are pissed at the US military. This is why the insurgency is able to operate so effectively -- because they have the support of the population. Sorry to say, but this battle will continue until the day US troops pull out of Iraq, however long that is. The insurgency is a movement, not a group, and it cannot be defeated by force. People simply do not like foreign troops in their country. Iraqis are no different than any other people in that respect.

Agreed that there will be a new face.

Disagreed that the 100k civilians who have died did so at our hand. You might remember that this character was trying to incite civil war, and he was the person responsible for singling out which ethnic civilian group woud die.

They should be pissed at him, which, I suspect, has something to do with how we knew where he was at.

I just walked past a local FDNY house while out getting my lunch and a few of New Yorks Bravest were standing out front... I asked how they felt that this p.o.s was dead and the smiles on their faces were from ear to ear.
