Your kids might enjoy going to Carmines for Italian in Times Square. The food isn't the greatest, but the atmosphere is ok, and the family style, mass quantities are excellent. If you want good Italian, don't go there. It's more for the experience than for the food. I am running out to now but will have more later.

If you guys are staying in Alexandria and you have kids- check out the Fish Market in Old Town. Historic building, and pretty good seafood with a kids menu. Ask to be seated upstairs on a weekend night and the kids can sing along while the old guy plays piano.
Find out exactly where in Alexandria you're staying and I can help you some more. It's my town. JV
