Does this make anyone else incredibly mad?

I don't know if you've all heard about this, but on Monday a part of the roof section of the Mass Pike Tunnel (Ted Williams Tunnel) in Boston collapsed, landed on a car, and killed a woman. I'm really shocked by this. Structural failures like that should NOT happen in this day and age.. I think they did a bad job with the whole Big Dig... Sure, you don't cut off the North End with an elevated highway anymore, but the 93 Tunnel is a bit dangerous to drive in.. Exits on both sides, everyone going 70+mph in a 40 zone..

That happened on the 805 North a few months ago, one of the huge signs collapsed on a car

Very Very Sad. I moved out of Boston during all the construction... driving in the old tunnel was scary enough back then.

If the governor follows thru with his criminal investigation, I predict alot of heads will roll - that should include state inspectors that stamped off on everything - but you have to wonder if it will actually catch any 'big fish'

The project from begining to end was all pork.

And the sad part is that the Feds paid for most of it.

Ronald Reagan tried to veto the whole shebang, and the jury may be out for another generation. Note that the Chunnel has already seen a massive fire as has a certain Swiss tunnel whose name escapes me at the moment. Mitt Romney has previously attempted to remove certain questionable officials; this incident gives him quite a bit more levarge. Sorry, "leverage", but levarge is close enough after a bit of the Merlot...they understand me in Reykjavik.

Anyway, when a window flies out of Chicago insurance building, and does a slice 'n' dice on a pedestrian, we don't stop building skyscrapers.

Somebody needs to get their ass kicked for this.. Fires in tunnels are one thing. I was talking with my German tutor today and she lived in Germany when the fire in the Swiss tunnel happened.. That was due to a tanker truck exploding. That's one thing.. This had to do with the structural integrity of a MAJOR route in a large city. I think it's the largest tunnel to Logan. Apparently they've found about 60 other structural weaknesses in it since this happened, and more in the other tunnels. It's slightly different with the windows falling out of skyscrapers.. That happened in Boston, too, with the John Hancock I think. This whole thing just pissed me off for some reason. All I can say is now I'm going to be going through Revere to Logan from now on.

I know, it's maddening and tragic, and you are right that the Swiss tunnel was not a structural (it's Swiss, how could it be?) issue. Write Mitt and tell him to fire somebody.

I suspect we have all seen builders of all sorts (cars, houses and bridges) cut corners in all sorts of ways. It is really tragic that something that was such a boondoggle in the first place (and should have never been done) has resulted in an innocent person's death.

The problem with the Big Dig is that they cut so many corners.. There were major leaks in the tunnels because the contractors didn't remove gravel where they should have, or something.. now this. Next thing you know the Zakim Bridge is going to tip over.
