So when we see fuel prices in the US go up, ask why

The majority of natural gas (over 80%) imported to the US is from Canada...as far as Oil goes here is the ranking:

Canada 16%
Mexico 12%
Saudia Arabia 11%
Venezuela 11%
Nigeria 8%
Iraq 3%
Algeria 3%
Angola 3%
Russia 3%
UK 2%

Out of that only half are OPEC nations, not including Canada or Mexico the two biggest exporters to the US. Really begins to make you wonder why violence in the ME escalates prices so drastically in the US. Also makes you wonder why the US only imports 3% of our fuel oil from Russia who has huge oil fields......GO COLD WAR.

Well, because we charge you the world price. As an employee of a supplier to the Canadian oil industry, we thank you for your patronage.

Also consider that there is heavy US investment in the Canadian oil industry. And that our oil reserves are second only to Saudi Arabia. It will become more expensive to extract over time, but it is there.

I do worry a little about how overheated it is becoming in the Alberta oil patch. That is a local (provincial) government that simply doesn't know how to spend everything it is taking in (which is a good thing, but unusual in our part of the world). Rebate cheques were mailed out to all residents, even those that just recently arrived. A friend told me that he got five cheques (family with three kids). Gotta love it.
