Flight 5191

Hi everyone,

I use the Lexington Blue Grass Airport frequently, and was shocked to see the horrible news of the Delta Flight 5191. I'd like to extend my thoughts and prayers for those people on board and for the relatives in these difficult times.

Don't know how a CRJ-200 can take-off on a 3500 ft long runaway.

There was a couple that just got married the day before and was taking off for their Honeymoon... May the 49 people all rest in peace.

Sad tragedy. I've flown Comair comuter jets in and out of Lexington and Cincinatti many times. Why wouldn't the tower do a visual on the aircraft before clearing it for takeoff?

I've been paying attention to this as well. Very sad story, and in the end it will be split between pilot and ATC responsibility. One of the things that happens at smaller airports is a takeoff clearance in advance of taking the runway. At Lexington, the two runways come to an odd angle off the taxiway. If the pilot became confused, it is possible the controller never saw the error. AT 6A, traffic is light and the takeoff may not have included a "position and hold"
