Deputies: Man Dies Trying To Cut Down Power Pole, Steal Wire

POSTED: 10:56 am EDT August 30, 2006
UPDATED: 11:28 am EDT August 30, 2006

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Greenville County deputies said that a man who died Wednesday morning in the Dunean community was electrocuted trying to steal wire from a power pole he cut down.

Master Deputiy Mike Hildebrand said that deputies got a call from Duke Energy at about 4:30 a.m. that a man was under a fallen power pole in a field off Hale Street.

Duke Energy workers had responded to reports of a power outage in the area.

When they got there, they discovered the fallen pole and the body.

A bow saw, wire strippers and other tools were found near the body, Hildebrand said.
