FYI on excessive speeding

An acquaintance got a 911 Turbo about 4 months ago and got a speeding ticket for doing more than 50mph over the limit in a 45mph zone from a local county cop.

His hearing was last week and he paid a big ass fine and is currently spending 5 days in county lockup.

Apparently jail time is mandatory for doing more than 50mph over the limit. I didn't even realize this! He's lucky he had a lawyer- judge wanted to give him 20 days in the poke, his lawyer whittled it down to 5.

Word to my brothers and sisters here who like to "enjoy" our driving experience.

Oh, and anyone interested in a 911 Turbo- his will be for sale when he gets out of jail.

Clint- he got pulled in Fairfax County, VA.

dude with the ass avatar- fine was BIG ASS enough that he won't say the exact dollar amount, so I'm guessing it was 4 firgures before the decimal point. He's selling the 911 cause he's not the type of person to go to the track regularly to get the most out of the car and his already bad case of buyer's remorse was worsened by the ticket and jail visit.

I can't imagine why anyone would need a car that fast on the street. A couple of months ago I turned in my Acura NSX (lease was over). I had that car for 3 years. It's not nearly as fast as the 911TT -- probably more similar to the speed of the regular base 911. And I cannot imagine how anyone would even want a car faster than that unless they regularly take it on the track.

Even my NSX had far more power than can be used on a regular street. If I floored it at a stoplight, I seemed like within a several seconds I was doing 50, and that was before even shifting to 2nd gear. That car had 290 hp. I cannot even imagine driving something the same weight but with 450 hp. Just rediculous if you ask me. It will definately get you in trouble.

Barry- not to bore you with his backstory, but he was doing it to impress his very hot 21-year old girlfriend.

He was clocked at 109mph on a 4-lane road with plenty of stoplights on it at 2am. He's just damn lucky that he wasn't drinking.

Point of the thread was not only do you get a fine and points for speeding, but some places (such as the county I live in) have mandatory jail time for excessive speeding.
