PopUps & Trojans, Lately...

And, I don't mean snacks for kids or USC...

This past week I've noticed an amazing amount of
PopUps getting through: most from "BetOnUs",
"SportsBet.com", some mortagage lending false fronts,
et al.

I've changed nothing in my Norton, Microsoft
Windows Defender, etc., recently, yet this new batch
of utter bullshit is creeping in, with seriously fookin
annoying regularity.

And, Ol'Norton has stopped/cleaned out about a Trojan
a day from that commie scam zombie joint called WinFixer.

I actually contacted BetOnUs, via theie web site, and got
an email back from so & so, the "sales director", who had the
balls to suggest I use pop up blockers, anti-spam, etc.

No Shit, Sherlock...he also would have me believe that some
mysterious AdWare is responsible for these recent pop ups and
that his company does not participate in or endorse that manner
of "seeking out customers". I wrote back that he was basically
a fookin liar and I hoped his old gig at MickeyD's calls him back.
By the bye, that betting joints didn't "find me" from any web
search/look of mine: I haven't bet on sports since college daze
and haven't watched an entire college game of any kind since
I still drank a lot of beer and smoked dope. They didn't get me
from a cookie or view...

Is it jes'me or, are any of you having a recent spate of
bs PopUps, etc.?

Any opins, help, would be appreciated.
BR,mD

JV, thanks...but, yes and yes. I also read the horror story links
everyday, on PC Mag updates.

This crap is worse than the phone solicitations: that, was at
least brought to near zip with the Do Not Call deal.

I think these 'NetAzzholes ought to have to look at my crap
several times a day. Then, take them out and shoot 'em.

Are you running some kind of spyware cleaner? Ad-Aware by Lavasoft is a good freebie I use. If you want it, go to www.download.com and search for it. Free download and free version.

I agree- it makes the net a PITA with all the ads, but then again, if this helps keep it free & untaxed, I'll put up with it.

JV,
Yes...I run SpyBot daily, Windows Defender overnight, etc.

Free and untaxed? These aren't pop ups from WalMart, my
local "real" bank, or some service that anyone in their right
mind "needs"; this is crap from betting joints, "mortgage" scams,
trojan laced "fix your computer" sites, etc.

This batch of 'NetCrap makes the fake watch hustlers and
SqueegeMen in NYC, during the '80s and '90s look like
legit bizmen, by comparo. Shoot these bastards. Lol!

I find the google toolbar works very nicely at blocking popups.

It could be your ISP and have nothing to do with your machine nor browser. It's the worse scenario of all because people rarely have good alternatives in ISP's.

We have a winner, ding, ding, ding, ding I was just reading all of the replies and was going to suggest that David download the free Google toolbar. I have used it for quite sometime now, and it successfully blocks 99.9% of popups. Try it David

p.s. It also has a very nice spell checker feature built in.

Thanks Gang...I'm gonna try GOOG's bar. I suspect part of the
recent outbreak is the fault of my ISP provider; that's the same
local punk outfit that has sieves for servers and is "fairly open"
I've been told: thus the spam email spike from a few months ago,
and now this pop up crap. I can't spell EyeTee, but it just seems
connected to me. But, it's the only high speed wireless option I
have here on the Mtn.

SpeelCheque? Who the hell needs SpeelCheque?!
Thanks...OlUncMtr
