We Just Had a 4.5 Earthquake in Hawaii!

Just getting out of bed when I heard this rumbling noise, I thought it was a sudden gust of wind and then I noticed the walls were shaking. It actually looked like my vision blurred. While this was going on, I immediately went out to check on my wife who was outside watering the potted plants, I could hear the three dogs barking like crazy. It was over in a matter of 15 - 20 seconds. As I got to the garage, my wife told me that she saw the X5 and the other two cars rocking from side to side as if somebody was pushing them from side to side. She said from the outside, the noise sounded like there was a huge truck approaching the area.

Never experienced an earthquake before. By the time I started to get concerned, the tremor has diminished. While I was sharing the news with my son in Honolulu, another after-shock happened for probably 3 seconds but he said nothing in his area, then after about 2 minutes, he started to feel the after-shock as well. Electric power is still out and I'm posting from my laptop through my Treo Dial Up Network.

Wow...I dont know if thats a feeling anyone can get used to...Glad to hear everyone's OK...I had never felt one in my life, and then experienced about one a week in Japan...I hated every one of them...

Was there any damage outside of the power outage(s)?

The quake was a 6.5 not a 4.5

Just got the update in the news!

i will do a walk around the house later in the morning to check for damages. Everything looks ok so far

Update: now it is a 6.5
By tonight is should be a 7.0.

Damn, 6.3 is HUGE. I lived in SoCal for 9 years, so I know what even smaller ones feel like. It's a pretty eerie feeling for sure. I just noticed that there was a 5.8 aftershock. Even that one was BIG. Centered on the big island I guess.
