It should.
You have two choices. You can either use your Cingular service (international roaming charges apply), in which case you must call Cingular immediately and ask them to add international service to your plan (assuming you don't already have this enabled - and it can take several weeks to enable this, so do it quickly). The other choice is to pick up a pre-paid SIM card in India and pop it into your V551 (assuming it's unlocked. If it's not, ask Cingular to unlock it for you before you leave).

Yep, my dad also bought the pre-paid SIM card in India, it worked okay, had a lot of problems with it, but in the end, it was only $20 some-odd dollars, and served it's purpose.
