Being the lazy SOB I am... warranty pricing?

OK... call me a lazy SOB (I dare you SuperGreg... I do need to sharpen my Pshop skills)

I'm rapidly approaching my 50k/4 year mark. Can you believe it? I still remember posting about tracking the build on roadfly. How time does tick.

Anyway, can anyone give me a quick idea of what I should expect to pay to extend the maintenance and the warranty using BMW solutions? From what I understand, they are two separate products. If I get both, is it the exact equivalent of the new vehicle warranty?

I was going to get a new X5, but if you look in my other thread you'll see what I decided to do instead

Thanks!

Chris

BMW NA offers two types of warranty.

(1) Extended maintainance warranty--basically all required maintaince extended till 100K miles or 6 years from purchase date of your vehicle (which ever comes first) Depending on what year your BMW is, the price can vary from $1500-$2000.

(2) Extended BMW warranty--again, extended till 100K miles or 6 years from the purchase date of your vehicle. Now, it covers most items in your car, but it is not as extensive as the original BMW factory warranty. For instance, it doesn't cover the navigation drive. Just read the fine print. Again depending on the year of your car and BMW dealer, it can be $3K-$4K.

Chris, you can negotiate with your BMW dealer on prices. I got a combo deal and it made sense for the '04 BMW M3. I didn't have the opportunity to do it on the X5 because there was no ext. warranty program when I hit 50K miles on the X5.

Good luck & good to see you posting again.

Is there an X5World-friendly dealer that is willing to make a deal on the Extended Warranty? Do I talk to a service advisor or is this a sales guy thing?

definitely shop around. when i called BMW (not the dealership) i spoke to a really nice person that broke it all down for me. but the one important thing she said was, "shop around."
dealer's price at their own discretion...my X is almost at 50k and she recommended the maintenance warranty and i paid $1200 including tax.

I got mine from BMW of Macon where Rob_ arranged a very special price for X5World Members... Look for Josh @ BMW of Macon.

Can you buy both maintenance programs anywhere in the US? What's the disadvantage of doing this?

Yes you can buy them from any BMW dealer in the U.S. no disadvantage at all... It'll just show up on your local BMW dealer's system...
