Anyone who grunts will be expelled

"I don't know the reason behind grunting or not grunting. But if you need to grunt, you may go and join another gym," People are nuts

This is actually becoming a big deal. More and more "metrogyms" are specifically targeting "regular" guys and gals and some even deny membership to people of actual size or build apparently.

Now - for that grunting stuff. People do it. I do it. Sometimes it just a mind thing and helps me to push that last rep up. Other times, it because the f#&*in weight is heavy as hell, and it hurts! HOWEVER, there are guys that go in there and start grunting on their first rep, and do it loudly. THAT, pisses people off. I mean, the difference is noticeable to say the least. Kind of like the guy that comes in there half naked covered in Vaseline. The beach is 40 miles from here dickhead, and hows about buying some panties that actually fit... Anyway, theres an etiquette I think, and most people follow it, some dont.

OMG!! That is insane but that is what this country is coming to. At my gym I am very concious of my efforts NOT to make anyone feel out of place. We have a lot of younger guys (and older guys) who aren't really in 'lifting' shape but try to start. I help every one of them the best I can, which is what the majority of us guys that go to the gym a lot do. We have some really big fellas at my place, multiple guys are bench pressing 500lbs. Which as any casual lifter will tell you is huge. HOWEVER, we too have the occasional jack ass that wants to grab all the attention in the world. Odd part is every guy that makes, I'll call it noise, is barely lifting their body weight, which I think is hilarious because 90% of the time there are at least 12 guys in the room who can lift more...and weigh less.

But if I went to a gym/health club and the largest dumb bell selection they had was 80lbs, I'd walk out. Anyone who does flys/hammer curls/skull crushers or the like knows you will need more the 80lbs...so I fault the guy on that one. I also think this fella was probably trying to show off if he continued to go to a gym that obviously wasn't.

Mike here, the owner, is a MORON:

"When somebody's in there and they grunt and they grunt loud, it's trying to bring attention to themselves to show everyone how strong they are," Grondahl said.
He obviously doesn't ever max out in free weights or even come close to serious repetition or he would know you do expel air at a rapid rate now some people just exhale loud and other have noise behind it, it doesn't guarantee they are trying to make people uncomfortable.

Oh and not to be sexist to the ladies out there, because they make the gym a much prettier place but check out ALL the quotes on the planetfitness.com web site, they are ALL women.....nobody talks about the great free weight selection or trainer experience, instead they talk about attitudes and how clean the joint is...I think the guy that got booted was definitely looking to show off...

"You truly are the Judgment Free Zone. I never hear the body builders grunting and groaning, or weights slamming around... It's also great to see people in wheel chairs or with disabilities getting in on the machines just as easily as everyone else. Everyone is equal!"
— Samantha M.

"By far the friendliest gym I have ever been to..."
— Elizabeth E.

"None of the attitude that you find at (other gyms)!"
— Derek W.

"I love going to the gym because of the atmosphere. It's much better than working out at home."

"I always wanted to work out but was always afraid of people watching me...and at PF it's really different. I really do feel comfortable."
— Stacy P.

"I love your 'Judgment Free Zone' motto, and it fits. The diversity of ages, weight and size of members says it all. Anyone can go in and get right to a workout without feeling self conscious."
— Nancy H.

"As a woman, I feel just as comfortable using the free weights and machines as I do on cardio equipment. I feel that everyone knows that everyone else is there for the same purpose. To get fit and feel good."
— Michelle F.

"I used to hate the strange looks that I would get at other gyms by not just the members but also the employees. I never get that at planet Fitness. I always feel comfortable to work out at my own pace."
— Ginger R.

"There are people of all ages, shapes and sizes. The staff does a great job of putting a halt to any show-off behavior before it gets out of control. The atmosphere is just easy going. It's great!"
— Adrienne D.
I don't count the Thomas quote as a man since his main concern is cleaning spray

IMO you can push yourself and not make the entire gym think you are having your first BM after two weeks. It is time for some etiquette in our society and this is as good a place as any. A bunch of grunters glancing sideways into the mirrors to make sure they didn't leave a needle in their butt I can do without.
