Tire Rack Deals

Can anyone offer me some insight on Tire Rack pricing. I understand and can see they are the cheapest. Just curious if there are even better deals to be had through referrals, discounts or waiting for a certain time of year.

Wait till the spring and buy used winter tires off people if you want them real cheap. Make friends, and I mean damn good friends, with mechanics etc to get things at slightly over their cost, push the issue at a place like NTB to match TireRack even though they are an online store....

Other than that, I have yet to find someplace with tires cheaper than there. Sometimes TireRack will have winter package sales in the fall and summer package sales in the spring, that's about all I know.

Also, try posting on any of the numerous other forums out there in the Wheel/Tire area... they're usually sponsered by TireRack.

If you purchase the package deal with Tires and Wheels mounted from Tirerack then the price is great. However, if you only purchase the tires and have them mounted then it may only be a little less considering you will pay for mounting balancing and shipping.

I just bought my winter tires from Tirerack without wheels and by the time shipping, mounting balancing it ended up saving me only $100.00

I have purchased three sets of tires from TireRack and have been happy with them. But it's a hassle for me to receive them and then take them down to the shop and have them installed. So the last couple of sets, I went with Costco and pricewise, they were not too far off and I got the road hazards warranty which I used couple of times already.

my local tire installer knows he can't beat tire rack prices. As a result, he allows me to have my tires delivered directly to his shop from tire rack. When I need to have them mounted and balanced, I drop off my wheels and he does the work for me.

Of course I grease the manager $20 but I usually do that anyway.

Yes, good point that I was considering especially with the cost of mounting runflats. Even with the duty and brokerage to get them across the border it remains a better deal.

I would echo the statements of others. I have purchased a couple of sets of tires from Tire Rack. The shipping charges usually kill the deal and as others have stated, if you have to get them mounted and balanced on your existing wheels it also kills the deal. I got a good deal of a set of wheels with tires though. There is also the hassle of having somewhere to ship the tires to. I used to have a shop that would handle all that stuff for me but it was still a hassle.

It used to be that America's Tire would match Tire Rack but now they have started factoring in shipping as well. Now I'd just go to Costco or America's Tire. Another thing is that Tire Rack doesn't sell Toyos, which were my last set of tires purchased. Since you don't have America's Tire up there I'd say price them out at Costco.
