Seeking your thoughts...

What's up gang...I've got a quick question for this elite group of BMW lovers. My neighbor has a 97 ///M3 with 64k on the dash and it is in excellent shape. There are no mods ( I know that makes this group ) ....so here is the big question. What do you guys think a fair price is? KBB says 18k...the stealer offered 12k...Car Max offered 9.4k. He wants to unload it because he doesn't drive it anymore. Whatcha' think??????...........Phil

10 year old M3? eh.... if you pay $15k, that's $420/month over 3 years that you can use to lease something newer, just a thought.

Do you really like the style of the car? would it be a toy or a DD?

I agree with Gresch. What do you want it for? Is it going to be a project car? Track car? Auto-x car? Just to have it hanging around the driveway car? Do you really like the E36 M3's?

It might sound kind of opportunistic but if he's going to take it in the shorts on a trade in you should offer him no more than what the dealer is offering him. He loses nothing on the deal and could even gain a better bargaining position going in on a new purchase without the burden of a trade-in. KBB is a great theoretical price but if he needs to sell now, he needs to take what he can get.

I like the E36 M3's. I think it's a cool car. If your going to use it on the track, just be careful not to miss your downshift. This happened to many E36 M3's on the track and result of a bad downshift was a rod through the engine.
I even saw this happen to a car right in front of me at Sebring. He had fluids that exploded all over my window.

I do agree with Gresch and PNG on this one. I might though, kick it up, just a bit, in order to lock the car. So $13K would be my offer.

Just be warned, you are looking at a vehicle that is not cheap to maintain.

That's a nice car, but it is 10 years old. I agree with B-Line, I would offer just slightly over what the dealer is offering. I found that KBB and Edmunds tend to be a little high on their numbers. It's hard to sell for their numbers and I think they inflate them just a little to please the dealers.

Good luck.

The ///M is not for me. I did my time with that toy already. I had a MY99 with Dinan stage 3 and a few other goodies. I'm just helping him out since he isn't really a fanatic like we are......Phil
