BMW related pictures from the LA Auto Show 12-1-06!!
Anyhow, this year marks the 100th anniversary of the LA Auto Show....(well, technically, it would have been January 2007 as the 100th year)....However, to avoid competition with other big auto shows in January 2007 (e.g. Detroit Auto Show), LA decided to move it one month earlier. There is an interesting section which shows the history of the LA Auto Show from 1907-now. There was one LA Auto Show in the 1930's when a spark from one of the cars started a fire (fortunately, no one died from it), but left over $1 millions worth of cars at that time damaged from the fire!! http://www.laautoshow.com/show/ Now, I don't know because it was Friday night or because this is the first year the show has been in early December, but it wasn't as crowded as I had expected. I am sure during the weekend it will be more crowded but with Christmas shopping on everyone's mind, maybe it won't as crowded as in the past when it was done after the holidays! So, here are the pictures from the LA Auto Show and I'll first show you some interesting pics of the E70 X5 if you haven't had a chance to check one out at your local BMW dealer. First, you can see all the BMW X5 ads all over the LA Auto Show! Also, you can see the button that opens the "split door" glove box. You can see the rear cupholders! You can see the rear bottom tailgate is now a manually operated door handle instead of the E53 X5's electric button and the E70 lower tailgate is much shorter in height. Also, of note, you can see the side rear window sunshade is a one piece deal There more air vents for the rear passenger (vents on the B-pillar) as well as the center vents with dual climate control for the rear passengers You can see that the X5 finally has those fancy wipers!!

You can see bigger front cupholders vs. the E53 X5's cupholders.
However, when you look at the 4.8i exhaust tail pipe, you can see at an angle that the oval tips are just attached to a round pipe coming out of the exhaust can. At an angle, it actually looks a little cheesy. Also, I noticed the front E70 doors are "lighter" than our E53 X5 and doesn't have the same "thunk" sound when you close the door. As nice as the E70 dash looks, for some reason in the light beige color, everything looked more "plasticky" on the E70 than our E53. The interior materials are nice in the E70, but the plastic pieces, levers, door handles, etc. seem more "tinny" and not as "robust" as our E53 pieces.

Now, my wife noticed this 750iL individual and she really likes the color combo. With closer inspection, we both realize that it is the same color combo as our E46 M3!!
![]() Carbon black metallic on the outside (which is really a deep blue metallic) and cinnamon interior leather. It did have alcantara headliner and a whole host of specialized options. This one was priced at $90K and you can get a BMW individual 7-series in the U.S. finally! However, it you want a unique 7-series, you can get your 7-series HYDROGEN powered via a BMW lease!! I believe it the similar lease price as a 760iL. (Hey, at least you can get free water from your tailpipe)

Okay, all the M-cars (M5/M6 cabrio/M coupe) were WHITE this year. The M5 had a 6-speed manual (no extra charge).

Okay, so your feet are tired and you have checked out every part of the BMW display at the LA Auto Show. As many of you know (or may not know), be sure to bring in your BMW keys to the LA Auto Show.
You see, BMW NA always builds a special lounge area for current BMW owners. This year, they built a 2nd floor lounge which you can oversee the the entire BMW display and the whole South Hall section of the LA Auto Show. You can free drinks and snacks and Starbuck's coffee!! Plus it is a place and you sit and relax!! So check it out. Go to the section where you see a "wall of wheels" and show the receptionist your BMW keys and you can get in!!

![]() Thanks for the pics You're right..the interior looks pretty tacky with beige. Any evidence of a cd changer? Those are not usdm headlights right? What color is the second X5? It's got that carbon-black kinda effect in these pics. I always liked the electric rear hatch. Can this one open via remote? |
