During the American revolution, thousands of "Americans" were killed by other Americans because they were "Loyalists", i.e. they were loyal to the King of England. They were seen by the Revolutionaries as traitors.

so what do you recommend should be done? these are the same people that will bomb the voting points as well...so do we let another violent dictator fill the power vacuum by bombing thier own people or do we persevere and continue to assist...remember the actions of the few do not usually follow the beliefs of the many

Eric, I don't believe children were ever targeted (as in Iraq with stadiums) or that people were beheaded as a symbol or that religious institutions were destroyed or scholars kidnapped....and any "evidence" to the contrary can not be in large supply.

If we leave, the violence will subside.

Back in the early 70s, the pro-war crowd also used the excuse "if we leave Veitnam there will be chaos and civil war". Yet once we left, within a few months there was peace, and in the next round of elections the population of the South got to participate in the democratic process.

This idea that there will be civil war is just being used to justify staying there longer. You have to realize that billions of dollars are being made every month by big business due to this war continuing. These are the same big businesses that give campaign contributions to your Senators and Congressmen.

In this case, the polls show that the majority of the Iraqi people want US troops to leave and the majority also think that attacks on US troops are justified.

Keep in mind that such an insurgency could not survive without support from the population. If the Iraqi population was to turn on the insurgency, they would all be rounded up and imprisoned in no time. The problem we face is that the locals help the insurgency.

Yes and calling them "Smart" and "seasoned fighters" is silly also, if they are all so smart why do they keep blowing up???? Don’t see how killing the enemy by blowing yourself up shows intelligence, the smart ones figure out how to stay alive.

How can you be a seasoned fighter if you blow up on your first attack?
