iPod Newbie Q: Nano 8gb vs. 30gb/60gb w/ Video?

Given a choice of two comparable units (I think the 8gb Nano and the 30gb video unit are both priced around $250), which unit would be preferable to use for X5 duty? I'm an iPod newb, so this is an area where I could use some good advice. I'm planning to go with the EAS/Dice iPod Integration w/ HD Radio kit setup in my '04 non-DSP X5. I have around 100gb of music. Will I need to convert all my MP3s to an iTunes format before I can use them on an iPod? What's the best way to manage this process...add a USB2 drive to my system to hold it all? Am I overlooking anything? Thanks in advance for any info you can offer!

Ipod has a new 80gb Ipod video out right now, they no longer make the 60. I do not believe that you need to convert from MP3 format. Do you use Itunes??

Couple of questions. You have 100gb of music on what? Mac or PC? and your figuring on using the a USB2 drive to store your music using iTunes??

I don't currently have any iPod, but I'm wanting to pick one up after the holidays. I have my files stored on a PC and I don't use iTunes. Worse! I don't even have access to highspeed internet where I live I currently have the music stored on my hard drive, and backed up to a USB2 portable hard drive. I store all my music files in folders titled by artist, then album title, with each song titled in the folder. I know I won't get it all onto the iPod, not even close. But I know one thing: I sure don't want to think about going back to (and being limited by) a 6-disc changer!

Without iTunes the iPod is useless. They go together like hand and glove.
You do need to download Itunes though ( It's free of course) and you don't need to buy from the apple store unless you wish to but in order to use the ipod you must have itunes. Transfering the music files over to itunes is another chore you must accomplish if your gonna use iTunes.

I'm no techie, but I can figure most of this stuff out given a few winks and a nudge or two. So you're saying, in other words, without a broadband internet connection, I would not be able to [easily] use an iPod?

Maybe my best bet is to go with the MP3-enabled BMW CDC then?

You do not need a broadband internet connection. All you need to do is to download itunes to manage and transfer your music to your ipod.
