They are expecting another snow storm today and tomorrow here in Denver. My X doest great in this weather. I do have some snows on and I feel like I am in total control.

M, most parents feel their kids waste money, espc. when it's
the'Rents money. Pretty normal feeling, on their part, imo.

Well, I try my best and save their money. Like how I didnt ask for (and didnt get) anything for xmas this year........again.

We all know the tail-happy antics of our X3. They just don't want to do anything about it.

God, please bring a few blizzards to NY so we all can enjoy it too with our snow tires

M, I don't quite understand that "tail-happy" thing...

We drove our old non-XDrive, up and down our very, very
steep mtn road, for four winters; the first winter on the
style 69 18" wheels with the oem summer Michies...
that was a handful, but we never didn't make it.

This is a seriousazz 4 mile climb with deep snow, ice, etc.

With the style 57 17s and Mich Alpins it was cake, on
days that none of our fellow mtn neighbors left the house.

So, bravado over with, but I don't understand a "tail-happy"
XDrive X3 in MaryLand?

Getting moving is absolutely no problem. Turning can get hairy on occasion. One time (I'll never forget) I was taking a friend out for lunch, made a right turn at an intersection at a normal speed, not trying anything stupid at 20mph. There was a small "strip" of slush in the corner leftover in between the tire tracks, no ice. Once the rear wheels hit that pile of slush I spun out and did a 180. Luckily no one was around and it was a 2 lane road. Accelerating/turning moderately out of intersections with snow or slush will cause the rear end to trip up a bit and DSC to flash.

Oddly enough all of this happens in normal driving and part throttle. When I really try to kick the tail out for fun and hit the throttle decently hard, xDrive manages to do its thing with the differential braking and everything's semi-okay. Maybe I should just drive harder..............

Trying not to beat this to a pulp, M...I've never exp'd what you are describing, in our old X5.
Maybe an X3/XDrive quirk or, just an anomaly?

Can I just say I have not found the X5 to be that great in the snow and we get nothing like what is in the pictures above.

Mind you this is having the normal tyres on

the big 4x4 motors with the auto trans ain't great on snow / ice covered roads.

how embarrassing is it when you are slowing down to make your turn in to the drive put your foot on the brakes and you just keep on sliding.
