This is well beyond my expertise, but depending on contract terms, can 2 separate parties rent the same space and be responsible for only 1/2 rent per party ? If X party leaves the space and breaks the lease, the other renting party is not responsible, etc.

Basically, I am looking to rent a physical office space. However, the norm of space that's in the market is generally 2.5X what I need. So I'm thinking about finding another company to share the space with and we would split the rent and space...

Yes, it is possible. But the real question is why would the landlord want to to this? If the space can be subdivided and it is easier to rent out or brings in more rent as two separate spaces, you might get some interest.
