One caveat....if you order HD for your 2007 X5, you WILL NOT be able to get Real-Time Traffic data for your NAV system.
BMW's HD and Real-Time traffic data cannot co-exist.

One of my colleagues has the European equivalent in his 2006 335 Coupe. We know it a DAB - Digital Audio Broadcasting, and he still has TMC on his Sat Nav.
As TMC radios already have twin receivers, one to listen and one always listening for TMC why can't the 2007 series with HD radio? It should not be beyond modern technology to have your radio tuned to the DAB signals (in our case around 200MHz, and have a second receiver listening to TMC (in the UK at around 100MHz). Feed the digital receiver signals (it's a separate module in the UK) to the audio side, and the TMC to the sat nav. They already do something similar with CD or MD changers, and iPods so what's the problem?
