Taken from sky report on the 8th
CCC: CEDIA Safe in 2008 The Colorado Convention Center (CCC) wants the Custom Electronics Design & Installation Association (CEDIA) to know that its annual expo - and the estimated $56 million in economic impact on Denver - most definitely has a home both this year and in 2008. The CCC emphatically denies that CEDIA is, or ever was, on the verge of being bumped off the schedule in favor of the Democrats two years from now. Last week, SkyREPORT picked up a story that ran in the Denver Post suggesting that $150 million worth of business would have to be displaced if Denver were granted the bid to host the Democrat National Conventional in 2008 and if the event was held at the CCC. The convention center is in the middle of a three-year contract with CEDIA to host the association's expo through that time. But CCC officials said it would be impossible for the center to house the Democrats, and the possibility was never even an option. "It would be impossible for the Democratic National Convention to be held at the convention center," said Rich Grant, CCC's director of communications. "The CEDIA expo is the biggest convention ever for Denver (and) there is no threat to CEDIA." According to the Post article, DNC bid specifications called for at least 650,000 gross square feet of space with unobscructed views for 18,000 people. Grant said that in terms of square-footage the convention center has ample room, but with regards to a large enough viewing area, the CCC is simply incapable of accommodating the crowd expected for the DNC. As of now, the Democratic National Convention in 2008 doesn't have a host city yet. Denver-based Qwest Communications and cable giant Comcast reportedly both pledged $5 million to bring the DNC to the MileHighCity. New York City is also in the running to host the event If they are not planning on using the CCC where are they going to put it? |

I'm going to be downtown during the nights with my camera. I figure a few good photo should be worth some money, right?

I agree. Boston had the DNC in 2004 and it was a PITA - worse traffic and more lost tourists than usual. |
