Here's my piss-n-moan thread of the day

I had something annoying happen this afternoon. It was very hot, so my friends and I decided to go swimming at my pond. I was driving to pick them up and on the way there, I passed my friendly, neighborhood Epsom cop. So, I picked them up and then I drove back the same way, past the same cop. I was going 30mph, in a 30 zone. I see him pull out and put his lights on and I'm like WTF did I do? So, I pull over and getmy license and registration ready. He greets me, and I say hello. He informed me that I was being pulled over because I had the wrong inspection sticker on my windshield. I had a green one, and it was supposed to be pink, I think. BUT, that night I went off the road in the winter, the cop gave me a warning for having an uninspected vehicle so a few days after that I took it to Tulley and they inspected it. So I showed him that paper. Apparently they had put the wrong sticker on. Ugh.. Let me explain the saga behind this:
Back when I had the X5, everything was fine. It was inspected and everything. One day I got pulled over because my stickers on my windshield and plate didnt match. One was a 4 and one was a 10. This is because my dad is born in October and my mom in April. I was with my dad when we bought the car, and my mom when we registered it. Apparently they didnt catch that. So we took it to Tulley to get the stickers changed. Everything was fine. Then that whole inconvenience involving strange men following me happened, so my mom decided I should get rid of my vanity plate and get a normal, numbered plate. So we did. The town wouldnt do it, but our neighbor works at the office of Dick Flynn, who is like the head of the DOT. So we got a numbered plate. Apparently the inspection didn't carry over, so the night I went off the road, I got a warning for having an uninspected vehicle. SO then we took it to Tulley and had them inspect it. However, as I found out tonight, they put the wrong sticker on. So now I have to get it inspected for the 4th time in a year!
Now I'm done ranting.

Car inspections aren't required in Michigan, either.

CJ, you need to have a heart-to-heart with the folks at Tulley. Their attention to detail is sorely lacking

Inspection for what? I'm glad Ontario does not conduct inspections.

Inspections consist of a number of things. They mainly check for emissions to make sure that your cars emissions system is working properly. They also check for rust (if you have rust HOLES then you will have to fix them or else you won't get a sticker). The car is then raised up and the suspension is checked, the undercarriage is checked visually for leaks, steering system checked, tires checked for tread, etc. Obviously the saftey stuff is checked -- seat belts, horn, wipers, mirrors, headlights, tail lights, etc.

It's a pain in the neck to do it every year but it keeps the junk off the road.

We had inspections in NJ and NY and we have annual inspections here in NC, but they are a joke:
the local lube joint or privateer fixit place does them and it is really a cursory glance: 3 mins, $9 and a new sticker.

There is subtle but serious pressure here in the far western counties, for being lenient and keeping them good Ol'boz trucks and stuff on the road. Thus, the junkers abound.

Starting in July, "emissions testing" finally makes its way here too; unlike NJ or NY that use the proctologist tube up the exhaust for analysis, they are going to plug into the OBC and see what it says. The kicker is, Only '96 MYs and newer get this check, (most of which will "pass). Thus, your basic 15 yr old pickup with bad brakes, no shocks, spitting oil droplets out the tail pipe is Not going to be inspected for emissions and that avg driver jes' slips the privateer a 10 spot or a nip of shine and he gets his sticker. The states' politicians are idiots...southern states are idiots+. What were the geniuses in the state capitol thinking of? Rant over.

You guys have it easy. Our Inspection is $45 and its PASS or FAIL. If you mod your ride hard, slipping the guy a 20  sometimes does teh trick.

Yeah NH just went back to emissions inspections. They do the OBC thing here too. The inspection cost at most stations is up to $35-40 or so. Feh. Back in the 70s when I first moved here, NH had 6 month inspections - those sucked. Seemed like you were always inspecting the car. Didn't keep the crap off the road (I know, I used to slip a guy a $20 for a sticker LOL) so they finally went to once a year.
