Anyone with an IMac?

Im looking for a new computer and I would like the IMac with the 24'' screen. Anyone have or use one? the closest Apple store is about 2hrs from me and I dont have a chance to check one out, but I need a comp asap. Any help would be greatly appreciated

The closest I got to that 24" iMac was spending a good 20 mins or so at the Apple store. You will love it. With the latest Intel Core 2 Duo processor, it will be a sweet machine. I would recommend that if you get the most RAM you could afford because it will more expensive down the road to upgrade the RAM, because it only has 2 slots for memory. I would go with 2GB at the minimum. Plus, if you are storing a lot of pictures and/or movie files, you want to get the bigger hard drive (500GB or even 750GB). The 20" and 24" iMac's come standard with 250GB.

Good luck!

That's my next machine. But I'm waiting until after next week when the Macworld convention will be over. That way I can see what's up with the new stuff. Just a question though. What do you mean "I need a comp asap"?

Not sure what your experience is with updating ram in a Mac but many folks i know don't get a ram update from Apple at purchase time. Instead they get 3rd party Ram from a store like Crucial http://www.crucial.com/index.asp?gcl...FR-CYAod6Gz0tQ which is much cheaper and installs in a snap. http://www.gearlive.com/index.php/ne...ever-01271218/

Also For huge files an external drive may be the best way to go although i would agree that a larger hard drive at purchase make a lot of sense.

load up memory at purchase

As mentioned here load up the memory when you purchase it , it's a lot cheaper. I have new Mac Pro, love it. I ordered with 4 gig and when I added 4 more later it was a lot more expensive. But I have been able to get rid of two other systems that were running windows xp and fedora linux , now I just us parallels desktop for Mac and run them in a window drag & drop files, etc between the two.

Mac's rule !!!!

Any PC user that doesn't realize that yet is dilusional.
I went from being a PC user to a MAC user 4 years ago and to say my life got better because of it is not an understatement..

Dr. Jay, I understand the Bestbuy now sells MAC.. I don't know if you have a Bestbuy closer to you than the MAC store but if you do, you can get one there.

Also, don't be afraid to spec your MAC online and have it delivered to your home. I am pretty sure they have a return policy which will probably cost you less than a 2hr. drive, both ways..
