And the genius of the week award goes to...

MY BROTHER! The smartest kid alive, I tell ya. Today, Dan and his friend Sam went kayaking on the Connecticut River. They were launching their kayaks at this place in the middle of nowhere in Walpole, NH. The road between the parking lot and the launch was all muddy and they didn't want to walk through it. So they drove. Everything went fine until my brother saw this nice big mud puddle with his name on it! My brother, who's like 20 going on 6, decided to drive through it. It was apparently a lot deeper than it looked because he sank down and the mud was up to the doors, and the truck was hung up on the frame. So the police arrived and started making fun of him. I really don't blame them. Being a Sunday and all, most towing companies were closed but they eventually found someone from Keene who was willing to come. The guy thought it was hilarious so he was taking pictures of it and everything. "Hey look at the stupid rich kid who can't drive!" I wish I had those pictures, but I don't. So here's a picture of what the truck looks like now.

Oh and the last pic is of that HUGE scratch...

One of my brothers in law did that same back in the early 80's. He just bought his toyota pickup (4x4 short bed) and decided to run down this hill through a mud hole and did the exact same thing your brother did. There were 8 miles on the truck though There was a guy that lived near this particular place and had a big old 4x4 ex-military tow truck. Hauled him right out - thought it was pretty darn funny too.

Another brother in law put gasoline in my father in law's toyota pickup - problem was it was a diesel pickup...

Now, THAT must have been one HUGE mudhole. Pretty funny stuff, though.

I went paddling on the Pemi this weekend up in Woodstock, when I came across a huge puddle on the road to the put in. I had my passenger get out and use the paddle to check depth. came almost half way up a 220cm paddle. Needless to say we carried in from there.

Got a lot of comments at the car wash when I took Buster (my X) to the Carwash to clean off the grime. People liked the look of an X with kayaks.

Yes they do! Also, all this rain has raised the level of the water around here a lot.. The Merrimack is pretty high, and my pond is about a foot higher than normal.

I think that what your brother did is a rite of passage when a young guy gets a 4x4. My brother got a nice new Toyota 4x4 way back in '81. The second day he had it he did something very similar to what your brother did. My parents and I were driving home past a huge construction site. We saw a Toyota pickup that looked like my brother's. It just happened to have its front end buried in a huge pool of water. There was a tow truck hooked up to the back end. We stopped, looked, and drove off. My dad was just shaking his head.

My genius brother did the same thing your bro did by underestimating what he thought was a puddle. Luckily for both of them they didn't decide to do an Ivan "The Ironman" Stewart jump and sink the whole truck.

I got a 4Runner in '88 and learned from my brother's mistake. I used to go running through mud fields but never got it stuck.
