The cable companies still get to decide what they do/don't report on, and if they want to spin it.

That being said, Conde Nast, Hearst, PRIMEDIA, Hachette Fillipachi, the NYTimes and the NYDailynews are all still indepdent. That's a pretty big list of movers and shakers in the media/publishing business.

SONY doesn't own any media outlets such as TV or print as far as I know. Uni/NBC is owned by GE, but GE wasn't on your or juan's list
