Question Time for a new Verizon cell phone, choices...

My CA based Cingular contract is finally up. Their coverage here in the PHX is still marginal at best. Verizon is the #1 cell phone here due to their excellent coverage (sorry Jeff). I want to get a new Verizon phone and be able to utilize the snap in adapter for my 2002 X5, so that I can use the hands free features etc...

A couple of questions:
- Will I need to install a separate antenna, or does it already have one for use by the snap in adapter?
- What's the best Verizon phone that has an available snap in adapter?

I already have the voice module installed btw.

Thanks,
Greg

There's currently only one Verizon phone with a snap-in adaptor - the Motorola V710. There are part numbers and references to the assorted problems the V710 has with working with the BMW BT system at http://www.xoutpost.com/bluetooth_compatible_phones.htm

I hate to see you leave Cingular, but you have to go with what works best for you.

Jeff, my current Cingular phone is an LG G4050 (GSM 850/1900). If let's say I went with the new Motorola Razr (GSM 850/900/1800/1900 & GPRS), do you think I would get better coverage??

I just got the Razr. I notice better reception and signal strength than my T637. But YMMV.

I love the phone. I am just sick there is no snap-in adapter yet.

When I picked up a V3 Razr I noticed a significant improvement in RF performance

You can't beat the selection of BT phones that are available for GSM networks.

The V710 adapter came out about 2 weeks ago. The phone was released in August. So about 6 months after release. The Razor came out in October. Give it another 2 months.

Can you get me a deal on a Razr? If so, I'll stay

Amazon has one for $189 after special offers - not sure how this works, though, if you are a current customer and want to do a contract renewal

Any idea whether the RAZR can be used with Verizon Wireless if I buy it without a service plan?

I don't think so

The RAZR is GSM only (I believe). Wrong network for Verizon.
