Art Forum:

I was wondering if anyone knew of a x5world like art forum?

I have a piece of art and I am trying to find out if it's authentic. It's Modern art.

Thanks,
B

S,
No fourm that I know of, other than the dedicated ones, eg
photo, painting, sculpting, crafts, fabric art, et al.

Here's a quick grab of appraisers, but some seem very foofoo
and some are what you get.

There are always a few appraisers around at the shows myCEO
puts her fabric art quits into, but they make their living from
giving $200+ "appraisals" for a piece that might fetch a grand, max.

I'd give a few links a read and then call a couple of local galleries;
I'm sure one of the gallery glams can take a look at your piece or
turn you on to someone.

Thanks MD,

I was sort of hoping to find a place where I could post a pic and have someone tell me what they think.
The piece is pretty big, as such, can not easily be taken into a gallery.
I guess I could pay to have an appraiser come down but I'm just trying to satisfy my own curiosity.

S,
Give us a hint: is it a painting, a sculpture, a wood carving,
a giant backyard astronomical piece? Maybe one of those
neat plastic woven bracelets like we made at camp? J/K!

I will print it up and take it to my professor on Tuesday - He is like a living book on this stuff. If he doesn't know I am sure he can direct you where you can go. Wait, I will just e-mail it to him - Duh - I'll let you know!

Cool picture by the way!

Beth

S,
That's Joan Miro...
the next question is it a truly signed piece and in
what quantity? He pumped out hundreds of works
and some frags, and did a lot of reproduction via
etching and seriagraph. Then, much of his work
went to "poster city".

Some good links, but even hard core noodling, I
could not locate your piece. See the GOOG link,
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...=Google+Search

and, espc. 2nd from top link:
http://www.masterworksfineart.com/inventory/miro.htm

that looks like the type of piece you have, ballpark-wise, from a
foofoo gallery. Serious dough...

A good honest dlr should be able to identify your piece
from a pic...a good Miro art book should have it, too
though it will take some page flipping, lol!

He pumped out the work, but it's pretty damn good, imo.
Art 101 class is dismissed. ;>)

Hey B-Line

I emailed my professor - still waiting for a reply.

I found this place when I was cruising around the internet looking for your piece. They are in Torrance so they are close to you (I would guess). I would e-mail them you pics and act like you might be interested in selling and see what they say.
Just a thought - Good Luck!

Thanks Beth and David..

I have had this thing hanging on the wall for years. We always thought it was a Miro but have never really tried to authenticate it.
It's pretty big. About 5'x3.5' (not including frame.)
-- I just never wanted to call it a "Miro" before because I was not sure. The sig is a little ambigious. But the "style" is definately Miro. I thought maybe it was a "Miro "like"" piece.

I have looked for years doing searches for Miro on the net but have never found this piece anywhere else. Not to say it's a one of a kind or even hard to find. But for me, i'm still in the dark.

I think it's a seriagraph. Definately not a print. The "canvas" is heavy, thick, textured. If you notice the second picture, under the sig, the paper has ridges all around it. Like it was "not" machine cut, but torn.

Also, what's the name of a piece of art that is comprised of two sheets cut? a di???? something or other?

Again, thanks for all the input. I'm just trying to satisfy a curiosity.
