Speed Cameras coming to my area!
. I think there's a certain threshold above the speed limit before they'll snap a pic of your license plate, but still, be careful!Other than slowing down (I'm no leadfoot), any proven products to prevent such tickets from cameras? i.e. covers, Photoblocker? I don't live in Rockville itself, but we drive there often and I also work there, and I'd hate to get a ticket since some of the speed limits they set are insanely low for the street conditions.http://www.rockvillemd.gov/residents....htm#locations(map of preliminary locations) |

Still seems like entrapment somehow.

I don't think it is entrapment...as they aren't pushing you faster and then nailing you for it but I do think it is complete crap.
Again, driver responsibility is the problem, not the speed. The fact that anyone, no matter how distracted or irresponsible, can push that pedal to the right down and exceed the recommended speed unsafely. I routinely go down RT70 in the early morning hours (4:50am ish) at well over the recommended speed limit. Why? Well there is nearly no traffic and the very straight and well kept road can easily handle speeds over the posted 65mph. It is drivers that go 40 in the 25 that cause problems for everyone around them. This is simply a response to a problem, not a solution to it (which would be better driver training and far more extensive renewal procedures for a license).

. When people figure out where they are at, they slow down, then put the pedal to the metal after they pass it. That's what I don't like.

In Europe they did a study that proved cameras did NOTHING to curtail speeding. As SG said, it simply slowed speeding in that particular area.

I am afraid you have been lucky not to have them for all this time ! Once you get toknow where they are just slow down for them then speed up after When i am in the car next I will take a picture and you will see how many speed cameras there are here. you have to watch out for the Specs cameras they are the worst as they time your speed over a longer distance so if you slam on the brakes when you see it you are to late.

Speaking of speed cameras, in Arizona, a speed camera captured a 2006 Hyundai Sonata rental car going 147mph, which is impossible. Car And Driver concluded the car had a drag limited top speed of 137 mph, tops.
