more stolen headlights...

I had to take my X back to the body shop this morning to get some touch up work done and there were 2 more X5's and a Lexus SUV waiting in the parking lot sans their headlights...

I think it is time for people to start investing in covered, locked garages. Either that, or steel cords attaching the headlights to the chassis. You know, like those steel braided cords you put on a laptop so it doesn't get stolen...

I've spoken to more than a few body shop guys both BMW guys and others, and everyone comes to the same conclusion - because the connection points of the assemblies are plastic it is close to impossible to secure them, the thieves just break the tabs off and they're gone...

Well this is unfortunately true for the 3-series design, too. Those headlights also were attached in this fashion. I think it was a rather clumsy way of securing the headlights.

Then again, BMW isn't supposed to be making headlights theft-proof, but go figure!

Simple solution....don't drive a car with xenons in the NJ/NYC area.

I tried to get them to put the non-xenons in, but was told that the computer would have a problem with it... oh well...
