Once again, thank god for BMW brakes..

Today I was on my way to Natick, Mass. I was on I-93 south in Methuen, in the left lane at about 80mph. Traffic was a little heavy, but flowing fine. I noticed the cars in front of me start slamming on their brakes. I hit mine, and I had to hit them full force. A mattress that wasn't secured had fallen out of a pickup right in the left lane, with enough in the next lane over to cause problems. I knew there was traffic behind me coming at me at like 80+mph, so I turned on my hazard flashers. Two cars behind me were able to swerve into the other lane to miss me. One person in a CRV managed to stop but was rear-ended.. Three cars behind me, an Expedition was hit and pushed into the snow bank. Scared the crap out of me.. We were just driving along, and all of a sudden there are cars screeching and swerving all over the place. So a reminder folks, keep on your toes!

Wow. Glad your okay. I saw something similar once. I was driving down I-215, and on the othe side of the highway, traffic was stopped by a couch in the middle of four lanes of traffic.

Glad you made it through unscathed, Joel.

I can't begin to count how many times the safety and performance features of the BMW have saved my bacon. Hence my loyalty to the badge

Wow, a close one! Good that you are ok! Today a dumba$$ in a Pilot decided to drift out of their lane and into mine, so I slammed the brakes and managed to miss them. Sure, it was a small minor incident, but thats usually whats important!
Does your 3 have adaptive brake lights?

CJ - you get in more accidents and near accidents than anyone I've ever heard of, well, besides my Aunt, but that's another story...

check out this search for posts by you that include the word "accident"

you would think that by now you'ld learn to slow down....

sorry for being preachy, but one of these days, you might not be posting "yeah, but i'm alright" at the end of your post about your latest debacle, and that would not be good.

Slow down dude, be safe.... glad you're ok.

i just had a similar experience in miami. i had a rental jeep liberty driving down i95 at about 50. a guy in a sebring (???) convertable driving about 2 car length infront of me suddenly beared left to about 1/2 into the left lane, then turned right until he was horizontal againest the road. obviously i was braking but by now i was about a few feets infront of him but i was lucky that since he was horizontal againest the road he was moving into the right lane and finally hit the side railing as i pass by behind him. First time i have ever been even close to a accident. not the best start to a holiday
